Reading NTFS files on another PC

I am wondering if there would be any issues with access permission if I simply take out my laptop HD and use an USB enclosure to retrieve contents in it.

As I mentioned in another thread, the fan on my laptop's GFX card is going. Not yet found a suitable replacement, so I may just leave it and not to anything too graphically demanding (I've already switched to the onboard Intel from the nVidia GeForce) until the laptop can be replaced.

In the event that the GFX card fry before that though, would it be possible to salvage the content? Most of the data have already been shifted to external drives, but there are game saves etc. that aren't backed up daily.

Basically - yes - depending on how the windows system that exists (or existed) on the laptop. But basically you will need to take ownership (as admin) of the files you want to access and then allocate them to the appropriate user if you have user accounts (good practice is that you should have at least one user account - for you as a user - and only use the admin account for admin type tasks).
