    3d Mark Vantage CPU score?

    Hi chaps

Just building a PC with Serious Sam this weekend, and it's gone very well.... too well perhaps.

PhenomII at 3.2 giug with 4gig DDR3 on a 790 mobo, and with a GTX285.. pretty serious tool

Thing is, while I know that's a lot quicker than my own QX6700 at 2.67... with 4 gig..

3dMark Vantage shows MAMMOTH CPU differences.

The GPU differences are exactly as I'd expect from a 4870 to a GTX285.

But my QX6700 on a 965 chipset with DDR goes to just under 10,000 point for CPU

and this Phenom goes to 41,000 !!!

Is that normal? Cos that's a MAMMOTH jump?

Or is the GTX doing any PhysX work here?

    I'm quite... jealous tbh.

It's what happens when I nerd it out at home all day which means I spend no money on any other forms of entertainment.

(I'm not even in Uni yet )

Me neither but look at my rig :<
I spent too much money on modding tools and fans and cooling systems and I ended up with my old 8400GS

Well you shouldn't need to for the next 3 years or so..

Maybe a new graphics card in 18-24 months.

I wish I could replace the beast that is t3h legendary 8400GS. The same beast that manages an awe-inspiring 17fps in smoke when playing at 1366x768 with low settings in COD4...

I could sell you another one and you could try running them in SLI...

Re: 3d Mark Vantage CPU score?

Not even got SLI connectors ironically, you would expect Nvidia to be trying to get people to do stupid things like that. Or is there some sort of hardware SLI you can do?
Or was it a joke and I'm being an idiot

Re: 3d Mark Vantage CPU score?

It was at least half a joke

I think all ATI cards support Crossfire, but the ones without "fingers" use some kind of software crossfire which I assume is driver-based and all the data transfers across the PCI-e bus. Does NVidia not offer something similar? Or can you only SLI nvidia cards that have SLI "fingers"?
