Does anybody have an idea as to what could be the cause of this? Just wondering before I start unplugging things one by one.
It's quite loud, but nowhere near the volume of the graphic's card squeek (i.e. when the power's not plugged in). I've not put anything new inside for a few months and it's just started today.
Most probably coil whine from your graphics card or PSU, try using a paper tube to locate where it's coming from.
You mean like bog roll tube? My word, is there nothing that these tubes can't be reused for?

Is it under warranty? I think loud coil whine should be covered but I'm not sure.
If it's 3+ years old, it's probably capacitors failing leading to some other component failing. IME anyway.
Does it buzz worse depending on what's displayed on the screen? Mine buzzes when displaying this calibration image for example: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/clock_phase.php#clockcalib
No, nothing seems to worsen or alleviate it. It's a very old monitor, at least around 7 or 8 years I think it's just on its last legs. Pity.

CRT monitors always make a high-pitched noise, is it louder than usual though? TBH there's probably not a lot you can do about it really and you can get decent LCD monitors pretty cheap now.
It could be a dodgy fan - perhaps something like a loose wire getting trapped in the fan.
It's a monitor, I doubt it has a fan.
