13inch Macbook Pro (2010)
Will probably get scolded for this, but for the first time I've been tempted by a macbook pro instead of just seeing them as overpriced/under-powered fashion laptops?
Reviews are raving about the new 15 inch models, but it was the 13inch one I saw displayed in John Lewis that made me think it was worth considering. It was almost half the width and also a little lighter than the 14inch Sony Viao that was sat next to it for £650. Difference in screen quality was also quite noticeable. The one I was looking at was the entry level one for £999: Core2duo 2.4Ghz with 4gig ram (should be enough for LR2 and photoshop) and the G220m gfx card (plenty for COH and TF2).
Has anyone had much experience running Win7 through bootcamp on these (or the previous generation)?
Will it behave just like a regular laptop?
And another stupid question, does the button built into the trackpad have a left and right button?

Hey
1. Yes they are nice
2. The 15/17's are better since they've Core i5 CPU's in them.
3. I'd make sure you switch out to an SSD - boosts performance massively.
4. The Touch pad has a fair few settings - you can also have it so you tap it rather than click etc - and yes it has right click.
5. VMware Fusion 3 + Windows7 works fine on the system.
:)
Re: 13inch Macbook Pro (2010)
Yup - Have decided to get the 13" Macbook Pro. For £999 it ticks every box for me... I wasn't convinced until I actually played with it at John Lewis in Canary Wharf and it just looked and felt a world apart from the Dells and Sonys and HPs which were stood next to it.
Tried to get as much info as possible on the nVidia G320m gfx. It's a custom GT310m (with 48 cores processors instead of 16) using integrated memory - so is bottlenecked by bandwidth. Overall benchmarks put it significantly ahead of the standard GT310m, but some way off the GT330m. So fast enough for the games I run - mainly COH and TF2. There's a youtube of someone running Crisis off it with medium settings. Mac forums already have posts of people overclocking gpu 25%, so definitely potential to be tapped there.
Am planning to pick it up from the Apple Store after work today.
Stupid really, as I only recently picked up an Acer Ferrari - which I guess will need another home now!

I said in another thread that MBPs are great. They are really good laptops.
You can run Windows 7 on bootcamp but the keyboard is an Apple keyboard.
If you buy it, just use it as an Apple computer...
If only PC manufacturers make something like this, I will be all for it!

Yeah I guess I'll be learning the Apple OS for the next few weeks.
Read in a few places that battery life suffers under Windows as Apple haven't enabled all the power saving features with their Windows drivers. Guess it's no secret why! :secret:
But I'll still putting Win7 on bootcamp to play my games, and as it'll be plugged in when I'm gaming I can't see this being a problem.
Re: 13inch Macbook Pro (2010)
Go for it. I think it is a good machine although the OS is a little bit limiting for what I do (but you can put bootcamp on to fix this but you will get bored with the switching :P )
