How much memory you intent to buy? 16/32/64GB? Because only that much would hold me off for a year lol

4 or 6 gig ddr3, but the prices are just way too much.
Snooty is right. They're not obscenely priced at the moment. Prices will come down as supply of DDR3 increases, but they'll go up if currency exchanges get worse, so it's a balance of the two really.
Since almost everything is priced in $. The answer is no.
Eg.
Item cost = $100 . exchange rate $2=£1 = £50
Item cost = $100 . exchange rate $1.5=£1 = £66.67
Blame Gordon 'I like to spend money I dont have' Brown.
Have you thought about doing a few cheap upgrades on your current pc to keep you going, or is that out if the question
Memory can be had for an ok price second hand no?
Just check out hexus classifieds too, plenty of stuff for sale there memory wise.
Edit: except you need 100 posts...
Too many people were living unsustainable lifestyles which were maintained by cheap credit. In the end many people have to take at least some of the blame themselves IMHO. Just because the banks offered cheap credit did not mean people had to take it.
It is just easier for people to blame the politicians for everything than take responsibility for some of their own financial decisions.

no politics here please ...
There was an oversupply of RAM last year and the year before and many of the companies were not making that much money as a result IIRC. Also before the sudden drop in the price of RAM there was also much price fixing happening AFAIK and I can still remember that 4GB of DDR2 was around £200 at least in late 2006 and early 2007.
