PSU: what to get?

Ok, so many threads by me but this is my last one for a bit now i promise!. Well my trusty Xclio 700w is now on its way out with the fan dead and the PSU giving off terrible smells, if i cant manage to fix the fan and keep it stable then im gunna have to look for a new PSU :(.

So what are the recommendations? My next rig/upgrade will be with the new AMD GPU's this year(if it happens) and possibly to the following:

AMD phenom 2 x6 (what model? The mid/high range, expect OC as it will be WCed)
4GB DDR3 ram
Random AM3 board
5850/5870 (im expecting the new cards to be similar power usage but better performance)
2 x1TB drives
1 x <100GB SSD

20W Pump, 3 fans.

So Suggestions? Im thinking that the white one that popped up just now (bequiet) would be a suitable psu?. I would rather be as cheap as possible but £60 i am willing to go for a decent PSU unlike this one thats already almost dead in 2years 4 months!.

The Seasonic mentioned in post 2 should do the job and even the Corsair mentioned in post 3 should be fine. What you get depends on whether you intend to overclock the CPU and what GPU you get.

If you intend to have a pair of graphics cards then I would consider the following Antec:

It has 4 PCI-E power connectors. All of these PSUs are made by Seasonic BTW.

Regarding a motherboard I would look at one of the following:

Both do symmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X/8X,have USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0, split 8+2 phase VRMs with cooling,core unlocking ability,all solid capacitors and SB850 southbridge. The Asrock motherboard has the HD4250 IGP whereas the Asus motherboard has the HD4290 IGP.

If you are overclocking I would get the X6 1055T as many can be overclocked to around 4GHZ:

I wouldn't go over 500W if you don't intend to run Crossfire. Either of the ones Kalniel recommended would be a good bet.

Haha CAT, i didnt mean to sound as if I was still searching for what im building :P I just thought id set something to give a realistic value for the PSU, I am comfortable waiting for bulldozer in 2011 while this e8400 kicks all games to pices.


Thanks for the suggestion guys, ive taken my PSu appart and it seems to be working fully bar the fan which has completely died. Its a 14mm fan so I was thinking maybe I should just replace that fan as it would be cheaper, if the PSU does then kick out in say 6months then i will order one of the above because at the minute I only have £30 on me >.<.

I would check the rating of the current fan first. Make sure that the fan has the same rating or perhaps a bit more.

Wow i did just look at the sticker again cause all i saw was Xclio but on the back i noticed its a yate loon :D.

In my experience it wasnt that great in performance or maybe the auto temp sensor was set to high inside the psu so ill run it via my fan controller isntead.

i remember when you could buy a 550vx for £50 then the pound dropped and the price shot up.

Corsairs and Enermax are great, you could always look for a Nexus if you want very quiet
