CPU Speed now showing/operating correctly in windows..
So i had a speed of 2.8ghz for awhile now and now after installing my latest bios which is F14 for my mobo,it was still 2.8ghz thats great but now all of the sudden i am only getting 1.8ghz showing on CPU-Z and Coretemp?? Wtf is going on here..it shows 2.8ghz on my BIOS but not on main desktop whats going on here.
I have turned every possibility settings off that would lower the clock speed but it still showing same thing..
Someone help me i ain't too happy with this and it does same thing with stress test,1.8ghz..
Re: CPU Speed now showing/operating correctly in windows..
It hasn't enabled SpeedStep as a result of the BIOS update has it?

Re: CPU Speed now showing/operating correctly in windows..
EIST / C1E as said :)
It underclocks the processor (usually by dropping the multiplier) when not in use in order to same you monies :) Also makes it quieter in most cases.
If you load the processor (Orthos/Prime95 etc) then it will clock back up to 2.8 :) (may take a while for CPUz to refresh sometimes, dependant on version)
Re: CPU Speed now showing/operating correctly in windows..
Usually if EIST/C1E/SpeedStep is enabled, stressing the CPU would definitely push it to 2.8ghz but as the OP said, it didn't, so they are likely to be already disabled.
The OP did also say they disabled most things related too..
Well as the OP solved it then that's all that matters.

I find on my laptop some programs don't report the change in speed correctly when speedstep is being used. That said, the same programs have no problem on my desktop, so it may just be a unique install or chipset issue...?

AFAIK laptop speedstep works differently and default to lower multiplier, unlike desktop speedstep which default to higher multiplier.
