I think integrating GPU with no advantage over a separate CPU and GPU chip is bad news really - it forces people to buy components they might not be using and might stop them trying competitors products - look at what happened when MS bundled IE/etc with windows...
When they start using the GPU for floating point operations (as in bulldozer) then cool, but not so happy about just phenom + GPU which I think this is.
It would be nice if it was in a netbook.
I think you hit that nail right on the head there.
There was wide prediction that laptops would wipe out desktops, in which case this makes a lot of sense.
For those of us that want desktop performance, it doesn't.
As for Bulldozer, that shares an FPU between two integer units on the assumption that heavy FP lifting will be done in future by the GPU.
Do I want this direction? No, I could have quiet a few meg of cache in the space used by that LLano GPU area or a couple more cores.
Is it ideal for a machine for my mum? Probably yes.
