    choice between 2 soundcards.

ok to clear things up to start, im looking for a creative PCI-E soundcard with X-RAM, nothing else, no other makes.

i was originally looking at this one

    Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro 7.1 Soundcard - PCI-Express

but then i spotted this one.

SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium PCI-Express - with DTS connector and 64Mb XRAM - Bulk

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it.

if its the same card i know where my moneys going

for years i have had the extreme music version and have been more than happy with it, but i need to go PCI-E so my SLI setup can have both cards running 16x.

According to the eBuyer product discussion people have had some driver issues with it. Might be worth investigating before you buy.

Took a bit of finding but a board shot of the twit branded one (thanks to http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=653&page=3):

    Board stamp SB0880

you'll never guess which SKU that matches up to

    SKU: 70SB088000004 : http://us.store.creative.com/PCI-Exp...B001E25KDK.htm

It's the same card with a rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish name on it

    edit: little bit cheaper: http://www.techdepot.co.uk/TD/produc...3E+Sound+Cards

    Re: choice between 2 soundcards.

Gonzo i believe they are identical, one has been fatal1ty branded which adds costs (bastards!) however the casing and the 2 year warranty would probably make it a fair increase in cost, but since you want the card without the ****s and giggles on it then yes the latter would be the better one.

Yes there are driver issues with a lot of cards, are you using windows 7 64bit mate? I found the automatic updater (from creative) did a good job however it fked everything up as i had HDMI(GPU)/onboard sound and a Audigy 2 ZS enabled while doing so, it gave me BSOD a few times so i recommend just disabling any sound hardware while installing then reboot and r enable, shouldnt pose a problem then.

    Re: choice between 2 soundcards.

Gonzo i did just check on google, that code references the titanium model only as the fatal1ty is sb0886. I do believe they are the same however i cant find any reference about the 64mb ram for the cheaper model on creatives website, everything else seems identical.

Also another thing, the full fledged fatal1ty model also has the drive bay thing so you can have optical in etc at the front of your case so thats why it costs more i think.

Well I was being more specific than that - according to that eBuyer thread Creative don't make it easy to download the right drivers for the OEM card.

Personally I don't use my X-Fi card any more so I'm not fussed

gonzo, id recommend searching around for pricing first mate.

I just searched google for ~1second, amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Sou.../dp/B001E5PJ2Y

Non oem and like 10p dearer and its through amazon not some reseller. I doubt you will miss the xram to.

I wouldn't use the supplied or downloaded drivers creative release anyway with their cut-down functionality.

Daniel K drivers work so much better with Windows 7 and gave me back all my features I needed to enjoy my mp3 playback in surround

    Re: choice between 2 soundcards.

of all the PC components I 've had fail on me... it's not been a soundcard.

2 years... they should give 5 years minimum... it doesn't need cooling, the mini jack plugs, unless you stick a cocktail stick in by accident, last for ages... and that's it.
