Intel M25-M Gen2 and X25-M. Whats the diff?

I am starting to look into SSDs (just because I can) and what's the difference between the Intel 80GB M25-M gen2 and the X25-M?

I ask as I just compared 2 e-tailer sites (literally just now) and the drives cost the same and the write/read speeds are the same? Is one site wrong or are both drives the same?

    P.S. I'm considering the 80gb M25-M gen2 as it's on a ScanShot email

Probably just mislabeled, make sure its the gen2 but you can confirm with the part numbers

Gen2 are faster and support TRIM. TRIM is a necessity for a SSD just incase you didn't know!

Re: Intel M25-M Gen2 and X25-M. Whats the diff?

    OK, here is neweggs site:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...157&name=Intel

Lots of X25-M but no M25-M in sight.

    Here is one from SCAN:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/80GB-...ite-70MB-s-OEM

Help please? Or is this particular one SCAN selling is not good? really good?

Re: Intel M25-M Gen2 and X25-M. Whats the diff?

Thats a typo by Scan - All drives even the V (value) range begin with an 'X' to the best of my knowledge.

Re: Intel M25-M Gen2 and X25-M. Whats the diff?

There is no M-25M, SCAN just have it listed wrong

If you get the G2R5 (on the end of the product code) rather than G2C1, then you get a mounting bracket included to mount it in a 3.5 bay

It definitely wants to have G2 in the last letters though as that signifies the second gen

SCAN don't do the G2R5 (they have the G2C1) but:

    http://www.dabs.com/products/intel-8...-mlc-69FT.html
    http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...983&tid=frooct

    All have the G2R5

They stock the 40GB mounting bracket one though - I was pleasantly surprised with mine

Re: Intel M25-M Gen2 and X25-M. Whats the diff?

I think Zak posted a similar question in a thread a while back - I did a bit of research and to cut a long story short what TakTak said is spot on.

Re: Intel M25-M Gen2 and X25-M. Whats the diff?

Having said buy the G2R5, there's no need, i've just realised that i'm not using my bracket anymore

So if you get the C1 then i'll post this off to you
