experience with Accelero twin turbo pro
Hi All,
Prelude: Sorry for the rubbish pictures and for my English too. It’s not my native language :-(
I have got my new Artic Cooling Accelero Twin-Turbo Pro GPU cooler so I decided to post how it performs compared to the stock XFX cooler and how the install went. It might help someone. :)
My main reason for buying was to get something quiet and I presumed that the temps will be lower by a few degrees...
First of all here’s the link for the product:

And some pictures:

The installation would be straightforward but I can say it is bit of a nightmare thanks to the rubbish tape used on the memory and VRM heatsinks.
It is very recommended to clean the card properly before fitting, especially all the components which will be under the third party heatsinks. I did the cleaning with compressed air and 80% alcohol.
The long memory heatsink did not stick to the memory chips at all. So I had to remove the default tape and install a tape what I fortunately had from one of my previous projects (before you buy this product make sure you have some additional heatsink tapes).
Note: I refitted the main heatsink 5 times before I decided to remove the original tape from the memory hsink (hassle^2)
I started to have some bad feelings about my purchase, but let the numbers speak for themselves :surprised::
Idle temps (idling on desktop for 15 minutes):

20 minutes Furmark on the highest settings (1920x1080):

Tomorrow I'm gonna test it without the fans :) I suspect it will handle this card easily. It won't be a big deal if I will need to refit the fans as they are surprisingly quiet.
so far my rating is 9.5/10 for this solution, but it will get 10 if it will be ok as a passive cooler
Re: experience with Accelero twin turbo pro
Good to see that the extra airflow helps the CPU too...
Re: experience with Accelero twin turbo pro
That's a huge drop in temps.
Re: experience with Accelero twin turbo pro
Thanks for the replies.
I was surprised too that all the temps went down as this cooler does not exhaust the air as the stock one.
Re: experience with Accelero twin turbo pro
Fantastic cooler! I got something like a 20 degree drop when I installed it on my 8800GT. I,too, had similar worries about the adhesive on the memory heatsinks, I was constantly worried that one would drop off under it's own weight. I have since uprgraded to a water set up and I'm pleased to say that the heatsinks required a fair twist and tug to get off - they managed to dry/stick themselves on quite well indeed.
Excellent, excellent cooler. Where did you get it from and how much, may I ask?
Re: experience with Accelero twin turbo pro
hi Englander,
I bought it from scan and it was £25.

very good, indeed
Re: experience with Accelero twin turbo pro
well got one over the weekend and it has made a difference to the temps on my 4870 - the only thing i found was that the vrm's were a pain to cover. the vrm sinks suppilied wern't any good so had to use the leftover ram sinks, and the way the vrm's are laid out ment that on 2 of them the 'sink left a small strip down the edge uncovered. i may take the old one into work and machine it down a bit so i can re-fit it.
back to the temps, which would you trust - catalyst or everest? my idle temps seem to vary. catalyst reports the drop down to 45°c and everest to 38°c - a good drop from stock in either case.
Re: experience with Accelero twin turbo pro
Everest displays 3 temps and catalyst has only one, I found that the temp in cat. always equals to the "GPU diode" temp in everest (-+1C) at least on my rig.
Yeah, I believe the instructions leaflet says that the left over mem heatsinks are meant to use for the VRM's. also, I don't think it's a problem that the chips are not completely covered as the fans provide a decent enough airflow.
I have tried to overclock a bit with the stock cooler, back then and it produced BSODs on 1050mhz (mem), now I can max out the catalyst OC values without any problem.
Does anyone know a good app for OC'ing the card? or is there a workaround in Catalyst to get higher frequencies?
update:
I tried to remove the fans from the accelero and it manages to get 2C cooler than the stock cooler in idle, however it can't keep up with the stress test (70C after 5mins of furmark)
so the best compromise is to fix the fans at the minimum rpm in catalyst to be completely quiet, and with this setting even at load it outperforms the stock cooler by a huge margin. still
