Best place to sell my PC?

I've got a monster of an i7 rig i'm trying to sell, purchasing a 27" iMac soon (yes i know.. i know)..

I was wondering if you chaps know any good places to try and shift it online, as it's difficult to convey to your average ebay buyer how good 6GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3 is.. etc

I can't post on the for sale forum on here as i'm not upto 100 posts, as i only really signed up here to say hello to some Hexus folks after meeting them at the GameOn LAN.

So any other hidden away forums except for hotukdeals (as i already trade on there) you can think of, cheers.

I think most forums that allow selling only do so after the person has reached a certain post count and/or been a member for a certain time, the ones i regularly use do anyway.

So the best thing to do unless you want to sell asap is post a bit more here or other forums and sell it on in a month or so's time. If you need to sell sooner rather than later then ebay is probably your best bet.

Yeah seems to be the problem i'm having, i have excellent feedback on hotukdeals but unfortunately there aren't to many PC types on there.

I did try ebay, but it didn't sell. Problem is ebay is full of business sellers who list custom built PCs, so you get a little lost in the crowd on there.

Thing is as well, if you sell it on forums, you'll more than likely wind up having to split it.

There are exceptions, but most of the time that seems to be what happens.

Obviously that's made even more likely by the fact that people won't be hugely tempted to bank transfer £1k+ on the strength of you having made 100 posts in a forum.

Yeah, i do have quite high feedback on hotukdeals though.. Sold stuff like 50" HDTV, iMac.. Lots of phones, consoles etc.. So i've done allot of high value trading. But then due to the weight of the PC + Monitor + The fact i have most of the retail boxes.. I'd rather sell in person, either collected or me deliver it upto a distance of 30 miles.

So it's look like the best bet for me would be to just keep it then, as it is in the region of £1200 worth of PC which i was looking to shift for £1000. So as you say, may even be difficult to sell it on here

I agree completely, but you're limiting your market to a 30-60 mile radius so you're again making it harder to find a willing buyer.

At the end of the day, if you list it cheaply enough, you'll sell it. You'll get more money by selling it in parts, almost certainly, but that increases the effort for you. And you still might have a hard time if people don't trust you to actually post out the stuff. I know you've got the HUKD feedback and so on, but it's no replacement for feedback on the site you're trying to sell on.

People get suspicious enough when somebody fairly new tries to sell something for £30, let alone £1000.

I'm not saying don't do it - not at all. Just that you might struggle to get the result you're looking for wherever you choose to sell it. Everywhere has its downfalls.

Yeah - you've got a point there. I mean i would be willing to courier it, but postage would be £40 for next day. As i'd want to send the base unit seperately, plus insure it. Then monitor seperate, also insure that.. Then the retail boxes seperately again. Then as you say, got the problem regarding feedback.. You're right though, i know myself on hotukdeals.. Unless somebody has good feedback on there, i won't deal. Even if they have high ebay feedback.

On another note though - i would be more than willing to post the item to first before payment.. But it would only be to very established members on here with a good trading history from here also.

It's so difficult to sell such a high end system, really gotta catch that certain type of buyer at the right time.. Not allot of people have got near a grand to splash out.

if you are looking idealy for someone nearby, I'd go for gumtree (UK equivalent to craigslist), but like anywhere, be aware that some shady people use it, but unlock other places, gumtree is anonymous.

Re: Best place to sell my PC?

Why not just go round all the local shops / supermarkets / computer shops / independent game shops (if you have any!) etc. and ask if you can put a card in their window / display? That way you've at least got it advertised while you're building up reputation and *constructive* post counts on tech forums.

Although tbh you're going to struggle to sell a complete i7 build - non-tech people will consider it too expensive for a second hand computer, and tech people will likely be interested in bits of it rather than the whole thing...

I can vouch for Sprite, I have met him at a few of the Lans

    Top notch bloke.

Although unfortunatly as others have said, rarely does a whole pc ever get sold as a complete unit, 99% of the time its broken, and sold as bits.

He should be able to now. On the basis of a personal recommendation from a good member (Rasta) I've overridden the standard qualification basis and enabled them. It would have happened automatically before long anyway.

    However ......

.... what you guys do by PM is up to you, but no selling on the forums, and don't expect to get much help from us, even to the little we can do when Sales agreements go wrong, unless the transaction is done via our Sales section in the usual way, and there is still a way to go for that to be available.

So, to both buyers and seller, I recommend the appropriate level of caution.
