Drivers ruining my life

A few days ago i replaced my 8800GTS with a 8400GTS to test it for a friend. I turned the computer, saw it worked and turned it off again, putting my 8800GTS back into my computer. Since then however my PC has really been acting up.

When i turn it on it BSOD before reaching windows, after the BIOS has passed. it will then restart (something about Display drivers being reset) and ask em to boot into safe mode/normally etc. Once past this it goes through the check disc, before finally letting me into windows.

I have twice uninstalled the Nvidia drivers, and reinstalled them both in safe mode and standard windows, but this hasn't helped.

Can anyone think of something I could try?

Try uninstalling the drivers in safemode, run driver cleaner or something similar, then reboot into normal mode and install the current drivers.

Failing that, nuke and reinstall windows.
