CPUs
Hi All,
Can someone confirm something for me out of a Celeron E3300 and a C2D E4600, which is faster?
I understand the E3300 is a newer core than the E4600, but for the life of me I can't work out which will give the better bang for buck.
Cheers
Craig

Re: CPUs
According to benchmarks on CPU-World they're actually pretty similar, with one being faster for some things and the other faster for other things. Click the benchmark tab on the following pages, scores are down the bottom and they've both been tested on the same motherboard: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celero...1E3300%29.html http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2...7E4600%29.html

Re: CPUs
E4600:
2.4Ghz, 2MB cache, FSB 800, 65nm,
E3300:
2.5Ghz, 1MB cache, FSB 800, 45nm
so stock speeds will be comparable, depending on the application, more cache is desirable for alot of applications.
both will overclock like a bitch so probably best to go for e4600 for the double cache, or if power draw is important go for the e3300

Re: CPUs
In terms of performance, they're very similar. As you've pointed out already the Celeron is newer, built on 45nm so uses less power (should be better overclocker) and also feature Virtualization which the C2D E4600 doesn't support.

Re: CPUs
agreed the 45nm might overclock better, but in any build that is considering chips this low end, the memory and motherboard are likely to be the limiting factors in the overclock. so i stand by my performance vs. power conclusion!

Re: CPUs
I got a Core 2 Duo E6300 brand new OEM for £20 in the end.
Now I think thats a bargain myself and I've even sold the Pentium D for £13!!

Re: CPUs
Blimey thats quite a nice upgrade and in reality only cost £7 !!
We're all missing a trick here !
