    Test with HD Tach

Anyone tried the new HD Tach 3 beta on your drives/RAID arrays?

Here's my scores with 2xWD Caviar 80GB 8MB cache on an integrated Highpoint controller and a single WD Caviar 80GB on primary EIDE channel.

MY RAID array seems to be spiking up and down a lot.
Anyone else want to try this on your RAID arrays?

That is awful, are you sure the drives are exactly the same?

oh yea, anyone got any idea why my cpu utilization is so high ? Is it just for the hdd test, or is it just whatever the utilization is whilst the test is running, as I was listening to the radio over the net and browsing the web whilst it was running ...

I'm not sure how HD Tach measure CPU usage but i should imagine it probably ended uo measuring your surfing processes etc. Actually i was surprised how low a CPU usage I got for my RAID array. I thought 'software' RAID was meant to use quite a bit of CPU?

Anyone know why some drives get spiky results and others not?

Well if the drives definitely are identicle and setup correctly then the only other flaw could be drivers and or bios (onhighpointraiddeviceitself) because your hdtach results are horrific.

Well the drives are absolutly the same only the serial no.s are different. I dont really wan to update the Highpoint bios unless i have too.
The thing is i get good scores in SiSoft drive benchmark around 75MB/s which is very good in comparison to SiSofts comparitive results. They have a 80GB 8mb cache RAID 0 array at 68MB/s as far as i can remember.

Find out if anyone else is getting the same results with the same setup to eliminate a problem with HDTACH, other than that bios flashing time m8y :/
