    i5 vs i7 6 core

ok i am planning on building a new system in july and i would like to know which system would suit me best for gaming and abit of future proofness

    1st system: i7 6 core
    6 core xeon@2.4ghz - £250
    asus p6t - £145
    3gb ram - £56
    Total: £451
    2nd system:i5 750
    I5 750 - £150
    asus h55 - £66
    4gb ram - £70
    new case RV02 - £102
    total = £388

the only reason im considering x58 is because i can get a 6 core cpu for a decent price off someone i know, so is the 6 core xeon@2.4ghz worth the extra money?

    i will use hd 5770

Swap the xeon for a i7 930 and you are good to go. Any of those two specs would do you proud.

Get the second one but with a better motherboard and a decent cooler and a good graphics card. Sorted. Don't waste money on X58 for gaming, the improvements over i5 are limited.

I don't believe money is an issue for howareu, hence the suggestion for a 930. Like i said both specs are good.

    Re: i5 vs i7 6 core

I suspect the second would be better for gaming, especially once overclocking potential is taken into account, but the first gives you the nucleus of what could turn into a very intriguing system over time, so I would go with the first.

If you can get a 6-Core i7 for that cheap go for it. Likely to come unlocked so 4Ghz+ shouldn't not be difficult too.
Certainly a lot of people will want to get hold of that kind of chip at that kind of price.

Are Xenon's usually unlocked or are you thinking it may be an engineering sample?

+1 - Yeah baby! Get the first for "future proofness" and pointless bragging rights. Unless you're really strapped for cash then the second for better value for money.

Get the Xeon and sell it.

    Unethical but profitable.
