It seems to use 320GB platters.
Edit!!
It looks like the hard drives use 640GB platters.

Haven't read the link yet, but isnt this a step backwards if theyre using 500GB platters in the F3 ?

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
They're 640GB platters, 320GB per side by the looks of it!
Edit: No, actually it looks like they're only using one side of the platters so they are 320GB but double the density of double sided 320GB platters, not sure why they'd only use one side?!?

CAT-THE-FIFTH (15-06-2010)
The Moose has officially informed me that he is absolutely confused(no change there though)!
I was going to say, i thought predictions for 640GB platters was that they wouldn't be around until Christmas.

There's a few drives that use single sided, single platters.
In terms of speed a double sided single platter is the same as a double single sided platter hard drive.
The arms the heads are connected to are a combined unit, so read/write would be the same esp as the data crosses platters/sides.

From http://www.electronista.com/articles....also.greener/:
I hope they're wrong...Unlike most of Samsung's drive line, the F4 is intended primarily for system builders and doesn't have a price.

There is demand for very small capacity drives. Server providers use as small a drive as possible to reduce bandwidth usage, and charge a very big (monthly) premium for bigger drives. Cheap home PCs also use very low capacity drives.
Having a single head 320GB drive will push the cost to the lowest possible, and have a (temporary) larger profit margin over the competitors.
Not to mention they can use the smaller drives to practice the use of higher density platters, before they try fitting it in multi-platter drives.

They say it's for system builders only, but I'll put money on it being available through the normal retailers anyway. They are after all system builders as well, and in many cases handle the RMA of Samsung drives them selves.
This is sounding quite an attractive drive if you ask me. If the cost is low enough and the performance really is 10% above a F3 then I think this would make an excellent boot drive for my server and my desktop. This would leave me with a 650GB and a 1.5TB as spares.
Here's a link to the Samsung product page: http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...fea&ppmi=1087#
Note there's no head on the top of the platter in the picture, just one on the bottom.
Interesting. They already have the market lead (IMHO) with the F3.
