Hi,
thinking of getting a slot loaded DVDRW drive for my PC but the ones I've seen are for laptops, would they work with a desktop PC?

To get one in a regular case you would need a couple of adapters. One for the case itself and another for the IDE/SATA interface. SATA ones are often normal, but can be mini SATA connectors. IDE opticals are always mini and need an adapter.

Others are available, I just knew LinITX.com had them all.
A remember a while back Scan did a 5.25" slot loading Blu-Ray reader / DVD-RW but I couldn't see it there today. The only other desktop ready one was this: http://www.digistor.com/DIGISTOR-5-2...iter-Slot-Load but it only seems to stock in the US.
Funkstar's solution will probably give a better result.
Oh right, thanks. Do you or anyone else have any experience with slot loaded drives in a desktop PC? are they quieter at r&w than the standard tray loaded ones since they don't have the tray? Any good for gaming machines?
They are generally slower and a lot more expensive.
If you want quiet writing then lower the burn speed. For reading you can get apps that will limit the speed to reduce the noise.
I would only use one if the case I had was too small for a full sized drive or I really needed the space for something else. Especially when you can get a regular 5.25" drive for about £12.
Okay well I already have a DVDRW and DVD ROM so might just keep them instead, thanks guys. I wish slot loading drives were as fast they're cool gadgets although my parents have a Dell laptop with a slot loader and my sister messed it up by stuffing a DVD in it while there was already a disc inside it so the drive ended up being jammed and unable to eject any of the 2 discs . Luckily it was still under warranty so they called a Dell technician out to replace it.
