    Planning to dump old hardware

I'm planning to dump some old hardware in the next couple of weeks, so I was just wondering whether anybody would be interested in any parts.

I'm not looking to make a profit (it's all ancient as far as I'm concerned), just thought if somebody wants it for price of postage then I'd rather pass it on than bin it. If there's any interest I'll obviously hold onto the relevant components.

    Three systems:

HP Brio Desktop, 866MHz Pentium 3 Coppermine, 512MB RAM (it's not DDR, before my time I'm afraid )
Toshiba Laptop, 1500MHz Pentium M Banias, 256MB RAM
du Pre Desktop, 1700MHz Pentium 4 Willamette, 768MB RAM (DDR I think)

They've got all the obvious bits like CD drives and PSUs, but I'm thinking that's more or less irrelevant since they're not worth posting.

You want rid of full laptops (with those specs) or just laptop parts? you'd get a few quid on ebay if working laptops no? I'd be interested in the laptop for modding if you don't find you can make some moolah on it from ebay Better yet...you do some modding !

Put them in for sale (which is where items being offered should be! and see what happens! There are occasionally people giving stuff away (for teh cost of the postage) or selling at a nominal price.

I know they should be technically in the FS forum, but I'm not interested in taking a load of photos of old junk for everyone to say "Hey, Jim, that's a load of old junk."

I'm not trying to "sell" it per-say, just seeing if there's any reason not to put them in the bin. I have no use for them, and I can't really see why anybody would have any use for them... but you never know.

I'm only doing it for the sake of helping people out, it would be far easier to lob the whole lot in a skip .

One laptop, others are desktops. I don't particularly want to lug anything heavy to the post office (I don't drive) so that's why I'm offering parts specifically. Mind you, the laptop would be fairly easy to post so that's a possibility.

As I said, I'm not really sure what I'm doing, just throwing it out there on the off-chance it's useful for someone.

    They'll make ideal firewall machines.

Re: Planning to dump old hardware

i'd be interested in the P4 desktop, long shot but does it have pci-e (for a folding rig) otherwise it'll make a good smoothwall server i reckon. how much for postage? or do you live near bristol or surrey for collection?

I'm going to struggle to post them I'm afraid - no car and not within easy reach of a post office

Re: Planning to dump old hardware

I'll take any leftover PCs and laptops and I'll even arrange the courier... you just need to box it up

[edit] I should add I'm not out to profit on these, they'll be setup & given away locally - just charging for monitors.

Re: Planning to dump old hardware

    Ah brilliant, nice one.

Forgot to mention... there should be a 512MB RAM module kicking around somewhere in the box, which will fit the du Pre - just came across it on Monday and chucked it in. And you're welcome to the XP Pro keys stuck to the cases if you find a use for them.
