    New Build, Gaming/Rendering.

    Hey folks,

So this computer will be used for gaming (I believe most source based games are CPU limited?) and some rendering (Luxrender/Blender, both of these support a huge number of threads) and probably some engineering based software. I just need the tower for now, no OS, so I was thinking of the following:

    Budget of about £800

    AMD Phenom X6 1090T - £240

    Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H - £110

    2x2GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-12800 CAS9 - £97

    550W Corsair 550VX -£70

    Antec Three Hundred - £44

    ATI 5850 or HD5770 - Can't find a good 5850 in stock, would a 5770 do 1920*1080 good anyway? - £235/130.

I have no idea about a HDD; some say F3s don't like the new AMD SB.

    Optical Drive - £15?

    Anything else I've missed?

    Thank you in advance.

    Re: New Build, Gaming/Rendering.

I would consider the Phenom II X6 1055T as you could overclock this to 3.2GHZ and save some money.

This is what I would get:

    Phenom II X6 1055T and Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 ~ £239

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

The Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 cannot do symmetrical Crossfire but has the SB850 southbridge,USB 3.0, SATA 3.0 and a split 8 phase VRM.

    OR

    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T ~ £156

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    AND

    Asus M4A89GTD PRO ~ £96

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus-...-SATA-RAID-ATX

This has the SB850 southbridge,SATA 3.0 and a split 8 phase VRM with cooling. Does symmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X/8X.

    4GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £94

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    500 GB Western Digital WD5001AALS Caviar Black ~ £46

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/500-G...MB-Cache-89-ms

The Samsung F3 would be a better value choice. Samsung has released a firmware update for affected drives though.

    Antec 300 ~ £42

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    620W Seasonic M12II-620 modular PSU ~ £70

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    1GB XFX HD 5830 ~ £161

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    OR

    1GB XFX HD5850 ~ £229

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    Titan Fenrir V2 ~ £30

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Titan...-K8-AM2-AM3%29

An optical drive also needs to be added to the build.

Also you are eligible for free Scan postage:

    Re: New Build, Gaming/Rendering.

Wow, thanks CAT for a detailed reply!

Didn't realise most of it was on today only, saves me ~£20.

And thank you for letting me know about the Firmware fix for the F3s.
