Re: New Chips - No Vinegar

right a couple of things have changed meaning that i'm gonna have a bit less availeable in the funds dept.

so now an i7 is prob out of the question, not only that but the 920 seems to have gone up by £20 since tues night/wed morning. so it's more than likely to build an amd rig.

    so looks like

    Phenom II X4 955BE/965BE c3 - aria/scan not decided where yet

Haven't decided between 790FX or 890FX soe either crosshair III or crosshair IV. apart from price is there a major difference.

    and 4gb of g.skill ripjaw/patriot viper/ocz. ddr3-1600

gonna keep the samsung f1 & psu for now, just to lessen the cost a bit.

Check the parts I suggested in post 11.

think i could add a new psu to the list. got the new case yesterday and temp put old mobo in. noly thing is that 24pin cable only just reaches and not how i wanted to route it i.e. behind the tray which is why i got it. nice case and loads of room to work in but a lot of the psu cables are a bit tight for my liking esp the 24pin

Re: New Chips - No Vinegar

regarding the psu i have a question. iirc not so many moons ago word was that a single large rail was better than a multiple rail unit. i could see benifits for either i.e. not overloading one rail etc etc, as i said it's just a question.

a new psu is something thats going to have to be gotten sooner rather than later. think i should be ok with a 600/650 unit. what would people's reccomendations be? and has anyone experience with coolermaster's silent pro psu's? as they seem to reasonably priced.

There must be extension cables available. Single rail is better although you're are most likely not going to be able to overload any single rail on a multi rail system.

I would get the 955 over the 965. not worth the price/preformance as you can just up the multi a notch on the 955 and get a 965 (make sure you get a c3 though).

In your position I would try to get a q6600 if compatible. Although if I was not seeing any slowdown i wouldn't upgrade at all.

not keen on extending everything, leads to more mechanical connections to fail (being a panel builder, i'm well aware of the failure of linking/extention contacts). and it just leads to it looking messy having loads of extentions to tie back as most leads are only a few inches short.
