Replacament fan heatsink for old P4 650 LGA775

Hi,

I still have the old stock Intel fan heatsink in my P4 550 system.
It has never been quiet but recently it has started to produce some disturbing high pitched noises.
I suspect it is going to fail soon ...

Can you recommend any replacement air cooler ?
The mobo sits vertically in the tower case. I am very worried about installing any heavy tall heatsink as I guess it could bend and damage the mobo.
I could not find the spec of the old stock cooler but I guess it probably weights about 500g ???
Therefore what I need, I think, is a modern, quiet, reasonably priced fan cooler, that does not weight a tonne and is not as high as Mount Everest. It has to be compatible with P4 650 3.4GHz and the LGA775 socket.
Can you recommend any CPU cooler that could match the spec above ?

It looks fairly bulky ...
So it "hangs" securely in your system held by two screws and four pins ?
Hmmm ... I would be worried but if it works then ... it works ...

I also found a Low Profile version :

but 90W spec does not give much margin for error (P4 550 -> 84W ?)

Motherboards can generally take quite a bit of abuse in terms on weight and pressure, just fitting an intel 775 stock cooler will cause the motherboard to bend slightly.
It's sharp blows and impact trauma, that's bad for motherboards.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro is a good option for you as is the old Akasa AK-965 x3 (if you can find it)

Nah go for the xigmatek it's cheaper, you can always get a backplate for it if you are overly worried about the weight on the motherboard

I wouldn't worry about the weight of a heatsink, your motherboard is sturdy and well secured to your case. Most people on this forum will have large tower heatsinks / fans fitted to their motherboards without issue.

Frankly, I managed to bow my motherboard just by fitting a stock HSF, but it hasn't caused any instability or performance issues...
