    Computer issues

These problems started a few weeks ago when a mate brought round his RAM and graphics card to test in my PC to troubleshoot his own computer.

We swopped in the graphics card and RAM and concluded the RAM was at fault. I put all of my stuff back in but started having problems booting my PC up. Inititally it would be a mixture of the fans spinning up to max RPM and the PC just sitting there black screened.

Upon restart it might do it again, or it would boot to windows then BSOD (display driver issues) before restarting & booting properly.

i tried uninstalling the display drivers a couple of times but still had the issue so eventually just deceided to format the bugger. Unfortunutly this has not helped, it isn't BSOD any more, but when booting 50% of the time it still spins the fans up to max RPM but doesnt boot, or even start the process. I have to turn off & turn on again a few times until it works.

I also can't get 2gb of RAM to work, it is the same corsair brand, and same freq (6400 - 80mhz) but different timings. its worked fine for several months but I can no longer get the PC to accept it. Could it need a high voltage then the PC is giving it due to diferent timings from the other 2gb of Corsair RAM?

Can anyone think of anything I could do to try and diagnose these problems a bit better?

    Thanks guys

    Re: Computer issues

It might be BIOS related, try to make sure everything is at stock and running at the stated speeds/timings. If you manage to get into Windows fine a few times but not all then something may be faulty and that means you'll be borrowing his computer to test parts with then..

    Re: Computer issues

Urgh, i really hope its not that as well. I have tried different RAM in different slots of the PC and each time the spins spin up to max RPM 7 it just sits there pre-boot.

All i did was swop my mates RAM (same as mine) into my PC, could that have really fried the PC slots?

    Re: Computer issues

Could it be the graphic card that's doing it? It would tie into the BSOD telling me its the display drivers (despite a driver uninstall and reformat) and the fact that the fan spins up on it to full RPM & stays there.

i will try my RAM in my flat mates PC tomorrow to rule them out. There wont be any ill effects in his PC driver wise etc if I just swop mine in & his out will there?

    thanks guys

    Re: Computer issues

If a bios flash doesn't work have you tried taking the mobo out of the case and running it ghetto style ? I had a silly little problem with mine which turned out to be something in the case shorting against the mobo.

    Afraid so.

That doesn't mean that's teh cause of this problem though.
As per some posts above, try re flashing your BIOS. Secondly, run memtest86 and see what it says.
