    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

Well like I said im pretty sure the code on the chip is the one that should be the unlockable chip. But of course its possible to get a core with 2 faulty chips, or you know its a bit of the lottery. Some people have been able to unlock in one motherboard, but not another even if they are running a chip, or different chips unlock in different motherboards.

It's definitely still a Dual Core, The ASRock manual says that if the unlock was successful you should see the new chip name in the bios. Just going to go for an overclock of the two cores now. The least they can give me is some extra work after failing to get their brothers working!

Do keep us updated with how you get on.

My son is already complaining his machine is too slow so I might have to have a proper crack at overclocking it

    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

Quick update havent really tried pushing the machine too much yet, but got it rock solid with my two cores at 250 HT ~2800mhz. Pretty modest so far but it works neatly with the HT bus multi of 4x (to bring it back to default 1000mhz speed), and a RAM divider with my RAM so I've settled on it for now.

System would post but not boot when I tried 300mhz (3.3ghz) but that was without ramping up the voltage manually.

Apologies for double post just a quick update to say I've got it rock solid stable at 3ghz (273 HT) (Note 2 cores only)

Stock voltage.. and best of all - 25 degrees under load! (Coolermaster TX2)

It's a pretty good price for a 3GHz dual core, don't you think

    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

I'm running one in a combined Am2 /AM3 board that will take either DDR3 or DDR2. Jetway HD08 combo. Allows use of these CPUs but AM3 and DDR3 are just drop-in upgrades.

Edit: can't use the CPU with DDR3 though - obviously.

    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

After a lot of messing about, I am back on a bus speed of 240MHz.

I could get stable at 250MHz, but the NB and memory clocks had to degrade quite a lot so stuff that. Right now it is all overclocked a bit

Perhaps if I messed with the voltages, but then first I have to look up what they are supposed to be at stock as this MB can't just add a bit I have to give a precise voltage

    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

Oh yeah - I should mention mine has defective L3 cache but some messing with settings got it stable enough to run stability tests and game pretty much indefinitely. If I'm doing anything really important I tend to leave it locked.

Running either FX-5000 at 3GHz without bumping up RAM voltage or 3.3GHz with RAM voltage pushed up a notch. Getting there involved much blood, sweat and tears. Had to upgrade my Freezer Pro 64 to a Scythe Kama Angle to keep the temps on the safe side.

    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

finally got round to putting a rig together to test mine out.
With UCC enabled, stock voltage and speed it shows as a quad core, however I had to disable the 4th core as it was constantly failing under Prime95. Cache is showing as 6Mb
Anyone got any recommendations on an upper voltage for these chips? Don't really want to fry it trying to squeeze that last core into life!

    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

been playing with this for a couple of days and cannot get the 4th core stable, even down as low as 2GHz. Settled for just having 3 cores running, L3 cache enabled, and all running prime95 with no issues at 2.9GHz. Getting a Passmark CPU score of 2286, not too shabby for £33

    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

    bit of a bump .

Been thinking about getting one for my dads pc (which i may nab), i see one of ebay for £45 incl shipping which is guaranteed to unlock, think its worth it?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMD-Athlon-64-...item5d29d21571

Recommendations for a cheapo motherboard that will overclock this well?

I used the ASRock board listed earlier in the thread, unlocks and overclocks a charm.

    Re: 45nm X2 5000+ back in stock!

not a bad board, very cheap aswell! Was gunna be top of my list but i noticed its an nvidia chipset... i hate my current 750i nvidia one its pants! However this could still be better.

One question about that board though is the performance impact from going HT 3.0--> HT 1.0, is there a difference? Been out of the AMD loop since the reliable Athlon Bartons .
