My dream pc!
Hi guys,
Im lookin to buy the following spec from Scan and Ebuyer in the next two days.
Ive tried to do load and loads of research and I'm hoping that any system builders here might be able to give it the once over:
Scan:
500 GB Western Digital WD5001AALS Caviar Black, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9 ms £45.16
Intel Corei7 920 D0 SLBEJ Bloomfield 45nm, 2.66 GHz, QPI 4.8GT/s, 8MB Cache, 20x Ratio, 130W, Retail
£197.60
Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE 22x DVD±R, 12x DVD±R, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, SATA, Black, OEM
£13.88
1GB XFX HD 5850 Black, PCI-E 2.0(x16), 4500MHz GDDR5, GPU 765MHz, 1440 Cores, DP/ 2x DL DVI-I/ HDMI
£252.13
Asus P6X58D-E, Intel X58, S1366, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 1333/1600/2000, SATA 3Gb/s RAID, ATX £168.22
Ebuyer:
OCZ 6GB (3X2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10666 Gold XTC Triple Channel Memory Kit For i7 Motherboards
£124.70
---------
My final query is about the Case/PSU.
Ebuyer appears to have a fantastic deal at the moment with a very low price on this special offer bundle:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/177749
CM Storm Scout + Coolermaster Silent Pro 700W Modular PSU *Special Offer Bundle*
My main concerns are the ability of the PSU to power my components - is it strong enough with voltage etc?
Also, whether the case is any good and importantly will it fit everything, especially the gfx card?
Am I forgetting anything?
Cheers, kind regards,
Bk7

700w is more than enough for your needs. Specs looks good.

Re: My dream pc!
You can get a Samsung F3 1TB drive for around 50 quid on ebuyer.
Although I suspect you might prefer WD as a brand.

Re: My dream pc!
Thanks for your suggestion Deadpeace,
I actually preffered the WD for its black edition specs and generally the 500gb size - i know it may be an antiquated thought but I still am not comfortable with 1tb of data on a single drive!
Does anyone have anythoughts on the case and its compatibility with all the components?

Re: My dream pc!
Components are fine.
Cases are a matter of personal preference, If you like it, buy it.

Re: My dream pc!
All looks good, although you could get superior performance for a similar or lower price if you Crossfire 2 5770s. Having said that the 5850 will be fine if your monitor is 1680x1050 or something like that.

Re: My dream pc!
shouldnt really reccomend crossfire 5770s over a 5850 as with a 5850 he has room for another one, not to mention a single card is always much better than crossfire, what with micro stutter, heat and power consumption.

Re: My dream pc!
Nowdays there's not really any problems with micro stutter. 5770 uses one 6 pin PCI-E connector whereas a 5850 uses 2 6 pin PCI-E connectors meaning the crossfire 5770 would use 2(75+75) = 300W at most and the 5850 would use 75+75+75 = 225W at most so you're only saving about 25% of the power. Most of the time I reckon the 5770 wouldn't pull that much more than the 5850.
As Skulltrail says though, a 5770 is enough for 1680*1050 and a 5850 is enough for 1920*1080, I'd rather go for a 5850 than 5770 crossfire though even if it offers more performance due to the simplicity of having only one card. (Although you could argue installing crossfire drivers after plugging in the card and power is not hard)

Re: My dream pc!
Seems like a well rounded system there. If money is not a big issue I'd recommend adding a 60GB SSD drive from latest offerings as a system drive.
