    Intel S5520SC / Intel E5620 Bios Question

    Hey,

I am putting together a workstation using the Intel Workstation motherboard, S5520SC. I purchased the motherboard several months ago and I am about to purchase the processors.

However, as the 56XX series has recently come out, I want to purchase multiple E5620 instead of multiple E5520. However, reading the compatibility page, it states that the motherboard bio's must first be updated to version 45 in order to use these new CPUS.

Does this mean that, if my motherboard does not have a compatible version of the bios, it will not boot using the E5620 chip? Is there anyway to tell what motherboard bios I have from serial numbers from the motherboard?

I don't want to have to purchase an E5520 chip just to upgrade my bios, then have to re-sell it to purchase E5620 chips. Can anyone help at all?

My motherboard details are as follows:

    PC: S5520SCMM: 900963
    PBA: E30682-303
    Version: E42764-303
    SN: QSHV90902698

    Cheers,

    - Calvin

Re: Intel S5520SC / Intel E5620 Bios Question

Some motherboards will boot with unsupported BIOS, but perform poorly.

Others will boot to BIOS, and let you update, but won't boot an OS.

    Others don't work at all.

Only way to know is to ask manufacturer or google and see if anybody else has had similar problems. You could always find somebody to do a BIOS flash for you, like a local computer shop, or maybe one of the online places might do it as a service.

    Hey,

Well thanks but I thought I would ask here as Intel have told me to ask local suppliers (I.E Scan). I always try Googling my problems before posting a thread, nothing came up.

I doubt I will be able to find anyone capable of flashing it for me, the kit is rather high end and I don't know anywhere which sells, let alone offers service for it (its all workstation/server kit).

    Cheers anyway,

    - Calvin

    Hey,

Are you sure this works with my motherboard? Where did you find this out?
