NorthQ Black Magic 850W Modular PSU - Any good?

I've been offered this (used) PSU as a p/x for something I'm selling, the deal would value the PSU around £35, a quick Google shows a rave review back in 2008 but I'm not upto speed on these things & I know a lot of you are!

so is it worth it as I'll also need to get a new case (got an mATX at the moment) so there's another £25 at least I'd have to spend

    Thanks folks!

    Rob

    Jonnyguru review is very complimentary...

I would say that's a very good deal on that basis - £35 will get you a decent 400W brand-new so we're talking about quite a big increase in a capacity.

That's the review I'd seen, much worry that it is used?

Re: NorthQ Black Magic 850W Modular PSU - Any good?

Well, power output can decrease over time, but since it's so high powered in the first place that's not worth worrying about.

So then it's a case of whether it fails or not, which is a lottery in this case anyway (it's clearly not a pile of junk).

The question is really: are you going to use that much power? If you're only going to draw 400W at max usage with the PC you have in mind, then you might as well use the money for a brand new 400W. Wasted watts don't give you any tangible benefit, so you gain nothing by having them sitting around idle. The benefits of a newer PSU are more numerous.

It's a good deal, I don't doubt that, but if you're never going to use it then there's not much point.

For £35 I'd say it's worth it, it's not the best or quietest of psu's, but treat it as a 600w psu and you'll be fine.

Yea, these are good. I have a mate that REALLY researches a product before he buys, and he got one of these.

    For £35, that's awesome.
