PSU Strong Enough To Run This Lot?
Hiya folks,
Have been quite tied up over the last few months, so can't login as much as I use to, I could do with racking up the minds of our Guru's here!
Basically, this is the system:
Core i7 920 CPU
Asus Gene mATX x58 M/B
OCZ 6Gb Blade DDR3
Asus HD5850
1Tb HDD + 1.5Tb HDD
LG Bluray Burner
PCI DVB-S2 Tuner
So, I've got a Corsair HX520W PSU and an Enermax Modu82+ 525W PSU, will either of them be able to power the rig above, especially in an intense session of gaming on the big screen?
I'm not sure as I recollect certain GPU's requiring a certain amount of amperage on the PSU rails, hence my question of whether my PSU's are up to it!
Thanks.
Re: PSU Strong Enough To Run This Lot?
I believe either of them should both be absolutely fine. 5850 is pretty power efficient. The hexus test system pulled 199W under 3D load with a 5850 in it, so you've got plenty of headroom even if you manage to megaload all 8 virtual cores of your CPU and hammer your graphics card :D
Re: PSU Strong Enough To Run This Lot?
Before I changed my PSU to the Seasonic, I powered my rig which is pretty similar to yours for power draw (I have 5870, but one less hdd) with a 530w Tagan, so either of those I'm sure will be fine.
Re: PSU Strong Enough To Run This Lot?
<-- Check it out. (Yes, 520W is plenty)
Re: PSU Strong Enough To Run This Lot?
So would a Antec 650w True Power New be a bit overkill on my proposed setup which is not dissimilar to UseItNow's rig?
Only, as I read that the PSU is one of the prime considerations, I opted for something that has been reviewed as a) good and b) reliable.
If I'm not going to need that sort of power I will go for something that is a) good, b) reliable and c) cheaper. But if more available power = a more stable system I will stick to the Antec

A bit overkill, but not too much - you could go with something like Corsair HX520 (if they're still manufactured, and cheaper), but I doubt the price difference is that great. Besides, if you decide to OC, the PSU won't add to the noise as much

I did consider having a wee stab at overclocking so I'll stick with the Antec...thanks for your help.
