Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 v2 Removal
Hello All,
Does anyone have the above cooler? I put one on my 3.2GHz Pentium, and I really don't rate it (its keeping it under 60c) but the Intel stock cooler can do that.
Also I don't like the mounting mechanism and it doesn't seem to tighten enough. I want to junk it, but the retaining pins look difficult to get out. Has anyone removed a v2 at all?
Is it a motherboard out jobbie? Or needle nose pliers?
In addition, can anyone recommend a good decent cooler? Preferably not the tower kind..

Unless I have a different version, all u need to do is twist the pegs that go into the mobo, its a sort of bayonet fitting.
Im really surprised u not happy with it, my Core2Duo at standard 2.3 GHz is running nicely at max 45 at 100%. Are u clocking yours ?

Its the new one that doesn't have the standard pins, there like a small little pin that sits flush in the retention bracket.
And yep am overclocking, am at 4GHz. Plus with it being so tall I can't have any of the case fans on the side of my case either decreasing my overall air flow.

Not having a fan on the side of your case will not decrease your overall are flow, just adding more fans doesn't help if they don't help the flow of air through the case.
Having a side panel fan oppersit a graphics card card can help, as a graphics card, esp a gaming one, will both produce a lot of heat and act as a shelf trapping the hot air in a pocket below it.
So a side panel fan oppersit the graphics card will help break up this pocket.
At a 4ghz overclock the stock cooler will cope but it's not going to be very quiet as the fan is going to have to rev up to keep it cool and the stock cooler also has the dust matting issue.
Namely the top of the heat sink just below the fan tends to trap and collect dust forming a mat across the top of the heat sink, which blocks air flow which in turn causes the fan to speed up even more.
