    Upgrade advice

Right, so I'm planning on upgrading my current system (E7200, DDR2, GA-EP35C-DS3R) to an AM3 platform and a Phenom II X6 CPU, but as always I like to check before I buy.
So far I've decided on the 1055T, 4GB of DDR3 (2x2GB) and as for the motherboard I was thinking since I never really bother overclocking I don't see the point in wasting money on a very expensive board, but that doesn't mean I don't care about features - plenty of expansion ports, a decent layout and a good MFR for example are of importance. So after a bit of research I found this one to start with but the 1 usable PCI-E 1x slot (with a dual-slot GPU) is putting me off, so instead I was thinking this one which seems much better equipped. Any thoughts? Also I'm not very familiar with DDR3, what would you say is the 'standard' frequency to go for, i.e. like 6400 was the norm for DDR2?
    Thanks!

    Re: Upgrade advice

How many pci-e x1 do you actually use?

might want to consider this one http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigab...-SATA-RAID-ATX
bit more money, however better EPS conector location and has USB3 if that rocks your boat.

    Re: Upgrade advice

I'm waiting to upgrade to AM3 myself (I have an E8600 ATM). Since you're not interested in overclocking you might be as well to grab a cheaper AM2+ board and re-use your existing DDR2 memory. Definitely go with Gigabyte imho, they're nice boards.

EDIT: I've just realised the 'My System' link has gone from the left panel. Wut? :\

    Re: Upgrade advice

ATM I'm not actually using any PCI-E 1x cards on that system but I don't mind paying a tad more just incase I need to add some cards in the future. USB3 could also be useful. I have thought about using an AM2+ board but I thought AM3 + DDR3 would potentially offer more upgrade-ability in future and the boards themselves cost about the same. Also, any ideas how much of an impact DDR2 would have on performance? I'd probably sell my current hardware to offset some of the cost of the upgrade anyway so I don't think the added cost of DDR3 would be too much of a problem, I have 6GB (2x1GB and 2x2GB) of Corsair DDR2 to sell and I'm pretty sure 4GB of DDR3 would be plenty for the upgraded system - I just added the extra 2GB because I had it. And yeah Gigabyte do have some good boards to choose from.

Hey Rainmaker, glad to see you're still here (You disappeared off the radar for a while and i feared the worst...)

The link is still there, it just doesn't show immediately after you post for some reason, if you refresh the page then the addon kicks in and shows it, odd really

    Re: Upgrade advice

your better off getting a AM3 board for a guaranteed compatability with the hexa core as not all am2+ boards will take them at least without a bios update. The cost of ddr2 second hand might be enough to buy the ddr3 outright

The Gigabyte USB3 board loooks to be your best choice

    Re: Upgrade advice

Thanks, just one last question I forgot to ask in the OP - any ideas how long I'll be waiting for the 95w TDP 1055T? And is the actual power use all that different anyway?
Edit: Also, sorry to ask again but in case you missed it what would you say is the 'standard' DDR3 frequency, like 6400 was for DDR2?
