Re: Something Ain't Right
Have you checked your voltages? Made sure they havent accidentally been increased? Also is the speex of your cpu fan controlled? Has the speed been lowered?
Whats the temps like when stressed?
Re: Something Ain't Right
voltage is 1.2375 which is about right with speedstep on, cpu fan is on top speed using a fan controller and when stressed as I mentioned it hits 70 within 5 seconds on the first two cores, 60 on the others.
Re: Something Ain't Right
Not that far off actually in this weather. Around 47C on idle with the 3.8 OC on it. Have knocked it back for now and is idling at 36 as I write this. In winter the system was running at 43C idle with the same settings so a 4-5C uplift in Summer. Under load it got even worse.
Re: Something Ain't Right
Mine is at stock though:(
Anyways I found out the problem. As I said before the screw head broke off, what I didn't realise was the screwhead is what holds the spings down, so one side of the cooler is not being held down at all which is causing the temps. Problem is I can't get the backplate of the motherboard, and I cant get the rest of the screw out. So I dunno what I'm sposed to do now:|
Re: Something Ain't Right
Right after a bit of research it seems the sticky pad used to attach the backplate to my board is extremely difficult to get off, obviously the guys making the tuniq towers didn't think anyone would ever need to remove one. So it seems my options is to either get a knife and try and slice the backplate off, which if I get it wrong means the end of my board... Or use a hairdryer to heat the sticky bit to loosen it and try and pull it off... At the moment I've emailed the tuniq guys telling them what happened and how they're dodgy screw (I read around and apparently the screws used are two parts of a screw glued together :O) has caused me problems and asked if they'd be will to send me a new blackplate and set of screws. I'll wait for their reply before I do anything. In the meantime does anyone know where I could get a decent s775 backplate seperate, and also those long thumbnail screws to fit? Thanks.
Re: Something Ain't Right
Scythe sells backplates separately, but I don't know whether they're supposed to work with any cooler.
Re: Something Ain't Right
so does xigmatec, so does thermalright, so do others

Re: Something Ain't Right
I guess I can use any s775 bracket then, right?
Also how about the screws, can't seem to find anyone selling them
Re: Something Ain't Right
Umm I'm not sure, have to look into the tuniq mounting system, however a bacl plate is rather basic as it's limited by the 4 holes in the motherboard, the only real issue is the thread used.
However if you have to replace the screws as well that's less of an issue, most will come with sprung screws and possible top brackets, which probably will not fit and you'll not need them as you should use the Tunqi brackets.
If you get that one from Scan double check with them if it does or does not include screws.
The Crossbow kit should look like this

Even then most do use a standard sized bolt, take it down to a good hardware (normal DIY not pc hardware) place and they should be able to match the thread to a bolt and supply you with some that will fit.
Re: Something Ain't Right
As far as I know, the screws are fixed to the heat sink and the bolt-through kit will not come with screws.
