One core running hotter than rest - i5 750

I've been having this recently where the same core is routinely hotter than the others at idle. The 3rd core is always about 4-5 degrees hotter under low- moderate load. Under full load the temps even out over every core.

This is a 3 month old build and has only starting doing this in the past 2-3 weeks so it's started fairly recently. It is overclocked but is still using EIST/C1/C3 so thats a moot point at idle.

The temps are all still within acceptable ranges so I'm not overly concerned I'm just wondering if this is expected behaivour or whether I should be looking into it more. I don't think it's to do with affinity either as the workloads are usually pretty evenly spread amongst the cores from my observations.

Any ideas? Any other i5 users experienced the same?

It's normal, I've got a 5-9 degrees gap between the hottest and coldest core on my i7 920.

same here, core 3 runs about 3 degrees higher, sensors can change over time so ignore it.

the old skt 775 quad cores could be tweaked if your heatsink screwed down as the cores were in a square, I series are in a line afaik so the only tweaking is to level out if 1 is higher then 4, 2 and 3 are in the middle so theres not a lot you can do

Well thats good to know! I'll focus more on the full load temps Wouldn't mind running a proper stress test to see if it happens then too, I've only done short 5 mins runs so far so not really reliable.
