I'm looking for a Hard drive for SATA 3 that has a good speed rating but below £50. I'm not bothered about size. Any suggestion?

BOOM... look no further
Thanks for the quick reply![]()
Although that's SATA "2" - 3Gbps, not SATA "3" (which is 6Gbps)... which did you mean?
Not that SATA 6Gbps will make any difference, anyway.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

1Tb Hitachi.
£44 inc vat
Partition it to 500gig and use the other half of te platters for speed... and get the other half for freethough clearly slower.
They're fast... proper fast. SATA 2 ..
SATA 3 has no place in speed terms for something that turns on a spindle and has read heads... like all of this style drive do. SATA 1 is still struggling to be flooded tbh.
Anyway.. preaching over, these Hitachi drives are very fast, quiet and I like them alot![]()

Never tried the Hitachi i have to admit, mainly due to the fact i dont really know anyone with experience to tell me otherwise (till now anyway) and you have to put a lot of trust in your hard drive.
Sorry I got confused with myself (late night early start etc) The motherboard I'm getting has SATA 6Gb/s ports. are these just for SSD units?
As Terbinator & Zak have said, with a mechanical drive you can't get enough throughput to saturate the 3Gbps of SATA 2, let alone the 6Gbps of SATA 3. Something that I should know, reallyWhich motherboard is this being attached to? Some drives have issues with the AMD SB8x0 SATA 3 controller - there's a couple of threads on here about it I think...
At the minute there's only a couple of SSD that use SATA 3 on the drive itself, and they're... well, a bit more than £50, shall we say![]()
The board is a Asus M4A89GTD ProWhich motherboard is this being attached to?
Yeah I know they're backward compat but I should have really checked the full range of HD on scan before posting. Just seen they do normal SATA3 disc HD's too. They're backwardly compatible, so you can plug SATA 2/1 cables and drives into them no problem

The SB850 on that motherboard has issues with Sammy F3 drives (or vice versa, perhaps) - don't know if it's all F3s or just certain models / capacities - which require a firmware update to operate properly. If you go for an F3 rather than the hitachi I'd get the etailer to confirm if it has the latest firmware...
