    Replacement motherboard help please!

    Once again I approach the altar of the wise and knowledgeable...

    I need to replace a board that got fried and could use some advice finding one that is compatible with my CPU and RAM.

    Copied from the Scan invoice to hopefully avoid any ambiguity:

    Chip is an AMD Phenom II 920 2.8GHz QCore
    RAM is Corsair TwinX 4GB TWIN2X4096-6400C5

    Mobo was an Asus M3A78-Pro.

    It needs to work out of the box with the above, have onboard graphics and, preferably, be in stock at Scan.

    Once again, my thanks in advance for the friendly, knowledgeable help that always seems to come my way around here
    For joy, apparently, it was all Franny could do to hold the phone, even with both hands.

    Nvidia board at £50

    Or get a 785G chipset for about £60. There may be some 780G boards for slightly less.

    As always check the compatibility list for CPU compatability and HT3.0!

    HT = hyperthreading?

    Any benefit to the 780/785 over the nvidia boards? Sorry, I'm a year out of touch...

    Re: Replacement motherboard help please!

    I'm not exactly in touch tbh. I have not heard anything bad about the nV boards. They should all be much of a likeness. Wiki has a good roundup for comparison on the chipsets and there are plenty reviews out there.

    HT3 just gives the best speed from what I can gather; its really the way to siphon out the older rebranded chipsets.
