Question Looking for a new Mid tower case

I've had a Chieftec Dragon full tower for quite a while now, but am looking to change it for something a bit more usable. Have just ripped out the old cold cathodes and neon string. I'm quite happy to not have the 'fancy stuff' with the new case.

This one looks like it will do the job: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Silve...r-Case-w-o-PSU

The main item I have to take into consideration is a NorthQ Siberian Tiger cpu cooler with 12cm radiator. From what I can tell, it would fit nicely in the case mentioned above.

    Other requirements:
    3 x 5.25" bays
    1 x 3.5" external bay
    2 x 3.5" internal bays

Do you think this case would do the job fine, or are there others that you would recommend?

Re: Looking for a new Mid tower case

For what you want it's a good choise, I'd also consider the older Precision PS02 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Silve...r-Case-w-o-PSU

    Also:
    Akasa Freedom Xone http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Akasa...r-Case-w-o-PSU
    Cheaper, Casecom 6788 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172779
Or 6189 or 6988 (both on pre-order atm) http://www.ebuyer.com/product/205154 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/205157 they both should be the same as the 6788 but with different front bezels

More traditional layout but good quality for the money Sunbeam Quarterback http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150297
or with out the silly door http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150298, or without window http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150296
Both are more money for some odd reason but still under £30, yes it's a traditional layout, not much hard drive space, no cable routeing holes, however good steel thickness making them solid cases and for the cost good value

Thanks - the Akasa case looks like quite a competitor.

Re: Looking for a new Mid tower case

If you do go for the Akasa then also buy a couple of filters for the side panel vents, that's one major flaw I've discovered with many of these cases, filtered front mesh, then big totally infiltered side panel vents so lots of dust gets sucked in
Only other minor niggling issue is it would of been better with slots for 2x140mm in the top and the single 140mm top fan could of been moved slightly further back.

I would of also sugested the NZXT Evo Beta and gamma and Antec 300 however none of them have 3.5" bays you'd need to get hold of a 5.25" to 3.5" external adaptor as well as a couple of filters for the side panel.
There is the Lexia S http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/NZXT-...r-Case-w-o-PSU but it's not cheap for what it is.

Couple of other options, Sharkoon Rebel 9 Pro Economy http://www.sharkoon.com/html/produkt...ml?id=r9proeco does include 5.25" to 3.5" front bay adaptor. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/Shark...r-Case-w-o-PSU
Or Sharkoon Nightfall, same case fancy aluminium front bezel http://www.sharkoon.com/html/produkt...ml?id=nghtfall (but I cannot find that for sale yet )

Actually if aluminium takes your fancy and you're willing to spend a bit more cash then the Lian-Li PC-60FNB http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Lian-...r-Case-w-o-PSU would be a very nice option

Thanks again. I thought I was settled on the Silverstone ps04, but now I'm undecided!

I'm getting to like the cases with 'tool-less' features, plus removable filters (after all the dust inside my current case!).

This one looks like a winner: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Coole...r-Case-w-o-PSU (bit pricey though)

Re: Looking for a new Mid tower case

The CM 690 II is nice, however it is slightly large for a mid tower (all the ones I sugested are smaller)
and it still has the old issue on unfiltered side panel vents, and there are other vents in the right side panel as well.

I would sugest looking at the LanCool K58 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Lanco...97-Audio-ports (ok not in stock at scan atm)
If you don't mind the slightly larger size and you want toolless then the LanCool has the BEST toolless features.
You will need to buy this http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2424.html to fit fan in the top of the case and a couple of 140mm fan to go with it of course
    In stock here http://www.cclonline.com/product-inf...oduct_id=47774

Here's Bill Owen's video review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2MdUGxWEcU the difference between the K60 and K58 is the K60 comes with top fans, but is not sold in the EU
one thing they missed, because that was a preretail sample, is that you get thumb screws for the motherboard, yep thumb screws to hold the motherboard in no screw driver required to change motherboard

Re: Looking for a new Mid tower case

Whatever happened to Antec 300? It's been updated to have a CPU cut-out, so mounting a cooler should be easier, and it has nice cooling capability.

The newer silverstone precision moodles look okay to me. Around £35-45; some are a bit narrow though (190mm)!

Full tower on scan today only £55. Xclioi blackhawk initial impressions are quite good; might want to check up.

Re: Looking for a new Mid tower case

Coolermaster Elite 330 isn't a bad case either. Just did a budget build for someone using one of these and I was very impressed with it

I'm looking to replace my Antec 300, I fancy a Lian Li again.

Re: Looking for a new Mid tower case

The blackhawk looks a good deal for the price. The coolermaster 330 is a good budget case but I would choose the Casecom recommended before in place of it purely for the cable management it has over the coolermaster 330.
