    Computer not posting

Right.... so about 4 months ago i posted a similar issue on this forum in which i desribed my computer not even posting.

I managed to fix this problem last time by removing the ram chips overnight and replacing them in the morning.

However, i came home last night and when i tried to turn on my computer everything powers on, hard drive, dvd drive, fans etc. Usually the fan on my 8800Gt GPU will run full whack for about 2 seconds before the settings in the bios kicks in and tells them to shut up. However now they continue to run at full whack untill i turn the computer off. I get no singal to my monitor and i am unable to do anything at all .

I have tried clearing the CMOS, reseating the ram, graphics card, CPU. Running the system with only the MB, Graphics card and CPU plugged in. And still i have no luck .

    Any ideas guys?

do you mean a whole new battery? or just taking it out for 24 hours and then replacing it?

    Re: Computer not posting

I mean replacing the old battery with a new one, if this doesn't work try running the system with 1 ram plugged in (soo u can enter bios), cpu & graphics card. Do you have any usb pendrives plugged into ur pc, that sometimes causes (on older mobo) to refuse the pc to boot up. If all fails it usually means ur 8800GT has failed or theres something shorting your mobo...

Does the board have any diagnostic displays on the board? Such as two seven segment displays, what do they indicate?

    Re: Computer not posting

This might sound silly, but have you tried unplugging it from the mains for an hour or so?

I had a PC with a slightly flaky PSU that used to "trip" something and need that before it would POST sometimes. Eventually replaced the bad PSU.

    Re: Computer not posting

    Hey guys

Ok, so i took the CMOS battery out and tested it with a voltmeter, it still reads strong at 3v which means it can't be the battery's problem.

I have tried unplugging overnight so that rules out that idea .

My motherboard doesn't have any kind of inbuilt display which is annoying. and i have tried it with 1gb of ram but it still refuses to boot into the bios .

    Any other ideas guys.

You really need to get a speaker attached to see if its beeping, that is the best way to find out what this issue is.

And yeah the 8-pin connector is definitly plugged n

What kind of speaker do need? will standard set f speakers plugged into the mobo line out work?

You need to connect a small round black buzzer device with suitable cable to the motherboard front panel connectors (consult your manual).

    Re: Computer not posting

This may sound silly too, but are you sure your computer isn't POSTing? I have a similar problem in that everything seems like it's working but if I leave it I get the windows startup noise. Have you tried leaving it to boot up with speakers plugged in? If it does boot up then maybe it's a graphics issue like mine (I get no display either).

    Re: Computer not posting

Right, i will see if i can find a suitable miniture speaker and attach it to my motherboard

I am pretty sure it's not POSTing because like i said in my first post, the fans do not cut down to the speed that i have set in the bios, which leads me to believe that the computer is not posting. Unfirtunatly because i am dual booting, i cannot wait for windows to boot, because i first have to manually select either windows or linux .
