Selling my rig - altogether or seperate?

Hi guys, if all goes well then i'll be heading to Uni in September, and in preparation for this will be selling my computer and buying a laptop instead.

I am just planning ahead at the moment and was wondering whether you think it would be more advisable to sell it as it is, or to take it apart and sell the components separately?

I have most of the boxes and manuals for the parts so that's not a problem, just looking for some general advice really..

    My spec:

    ▪ Intel E8400 C2D w/ AC Freezer 7 Pro
    ▪ Asus P5K Premium mobo
    ▪ Corsair Dominator 2GB DDR2 PC2-8500
    ▪ EVGA 9800GTX+ 512MB GPU
    ▪ Enermax 600W Noisetaker PSU
    ▪ 2 x Samsung Spinpoint Sata2 160GB drives
    ▪ 1 x Maxtor Sata2 160GB drive
    ▪ LG DVD-RW LightScribe drive
    ▪ Dell S2309W monitor
    ▪ Creative PCI-E soundcard
    ▪ Edimax WLAN card

Housed in a Thermaltake Armor case.

    Cheers.

you might actually find it more of a hassle to sell it altogether, besides you will probabily get more if you sell them separately

Dont sell it, take it with you, I was always dissapointed when I decided I should just have a laptop at uni. Get a little cheapo laptop you can do word and powerpoint on, keep that one in your room for more intensive tasks.

Re: Selling my rig - altogether or seperate?

Cheers for the replies - I had originally decided on taking it but I don't game anymore or use it for any really intensive tasks (that I can think of) so it just seems like a bit of a overkill.

Hawker, what kind of things did/do you miss from not having a system at Uni?

Well desktops offer you a lot of flexibility in terms of upgrade potential compared with a laptop, you may change your mind about gaming, I didnt think id have a lot of time for gaming, but in the end it was something I missed at various points. I also missed having a proper screen, keyboard and mouse. And in the end I so rarely needed to take my laptop anywhere, what with good library facilities that keeping my desktop and having a low end laptop would have been a lot better. It just gives you a lot more flexibility.

In the end two years into my (5 year) course I gave in and bought a new desktop.
