Should this spec be fine ?
Im running my 32" tv at 1360 x 768 with my current pc.
I am looking to upgrade as I want to play more cames like FSX, Crysis, Batman AA etc etc on max settings.
Should this be adequate ?
Asus Rampage 2 extreme
i7 920 do
6gb 1600 etc
4890 1gb
Zalman ZM750HP M
Creative XFI
D-Link DWA-556 N Specification
I am thinking to get it and overclock to 4.0 and add a h50 ? Or would an Thermalright VenomousX be adequate?
So questions :
Would the system be adequate for my gaming needs?
Would the Venmousx be adequate for cooling for the i7 @ 4.0 or would I need the h50 ?
What sort of price should I be paying for such a system?
Thanks alot !
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
No mention of your chosen graphics card but that should be more than man enough for what you want it for and more besides :)
BTW should have gone in Hexus Hardware in all fairness.
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Hi,
It is a 4890 1gb, so not really the best GFX card out there by the looks of things. But it should be fine for max settings at the lower resolutions right?
Ah my apologies, how do you shift the thread across ?
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
One of the mods will have to move your thread.
I'm still using a 4850 1 GB card and that still cuts the mustard in most titles at the moment so you've not got much to worry about.
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
4890 1GB is still a good card at the very top of the midrange (or very bottom of the top range, depending on your viewpoint ;) ). It will monster pretty much any game at 1360 x 768, which is the widescreen equivalent of 1280 x 1024.
tbh, I think the whole system will be a bit wasted with that screen - a 32" TV isn't really the best option for gaming...
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
+1 for ditch that screen.
TV screens are crap on the whole.
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Forgot to ask, will that psu be ok for when it comes to overclocking the i7 ?
Regards
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
750w should be more than enough.
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Hmm
What PSU is required for the 4870x2 ?
If you go on their website they say :
http://www.amd.com/uk/products/deskt...uirements.aspx
650 Watt or greater power supply with one 2x3-pin PCIe® power connector and one 2x4-pin PCIe® power connector is required (1K Watt with two 2x3-pin and two 2x4-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)
Will this PSU be ok ?
http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...ad.asp?idx=197
Jesus, I used to be so in touch with computers, like 8 years ago :(
edit
read somewhere else you need - Please note, you will require a suitable PSU with least 1x 8 pin & 1x6 pin connector.
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Ok, it seems that psu is fine.
Anyone got any ideas on cooling the cpu @ 4.0 ish? haf 932 case!
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Anyone?
Also, is it worth going through the whole RAID 0 route?
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Unless you already know you've got a good reason for giving RAID a go, you propably won't see much benefit from it.
No idea about the cooler, I'm using a TRUE 120 on my Q6600 but I understand there are better coolers available these days.
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Titan Fenrir on the i7 would be my recommendation, or an H50 (or new H70) if you are looking to keep it even cooler. But with the air cooling in a HAF, i would say the Fenrir would be fine.

RAID 0 will have minimal benefit to performance and double your risk of data failure... RAID 0 is just fail all round really.
If you want fast drive then get an SSD (Crucial make some nice ones), they are poor value for money but you don't seem to be short of that judging by this thread...
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Are you guys 100% sure 750w will be enough for a 4870x2 i7920@4.0 6gb ddr3 system??
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
that is easily enough. You would get away with a 500W PSU most likely.
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Will there be a difference between a 4890 and a 4870x2 at 1280 x 768. Can't really afford a new monitor atm so stuck with that, will probably upgrade around January though.
Theres no point dishing out 150 odd for a 4870x2 when the 4890 will do the exact same thing at that resolution.
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
I'm a little worried about this 4870x2 stuttering business I am reading about. Anyone got any insight here?
Re: Should this spec be fine ?
Don't bother with a 4870x2 for that res. Even if you upgrade to 1080p a 4890 should be enough and it'll suck less power out of the wall...
