    AMD Athlon II X4 635

    Hi there.

I'm building a new rig and looking to budget abit as I recently discovered that I have to buy Windows again

How will this CPU cope in games like Starcraft 2, Bad Compay 2 and WoW? I know that BC2 really requires a Quad Core to get decent performance, but will even a budget one like this do the job?

In short, how will this suit my gaming needs when running it with a 768mb GTX 460.

    Thanks

Older 6xx X4's didnt have L3 cache which is apparently supposed to make a bit of a difference in gaming, but I'm not sure about this one

Re: AMD Athlon II X4 635

No Athlon II has L3 cache - that's the main differentiation between Athlons and Phenoms. I reckon the Athlon II x4 would be OK if you genuinely can't afford a Phenom II x4, but if you can scrape up the extra for a Phenom II I'd definitely recommend it - well worth the extra money. The Phenom II X4 945 is only £40 more for a full helping of L3 Cache and a (very slightly) higher clock speed...

Hmmm yeah, the lack of L3 cache is concerning

I might save up some more then and get the 955, which appears pretty popular at the moment. This should do me well I hope?
