Re: New PC build for £500
Hello Luke, this is the build i would go for:
Reason for putting a SSD is because you want really fast load time so SSD is your best bet if you want quick boot up etc,and the 5750 gpu be more than enough for all your needs, can do gaming aswell with this build and the triple core be great for general use.:) Although did you need a case?? if so i will change it.

Re: New PC build for £500
Hi kurosagi01, thanks for the really quick response :) I would need a case as well, preferably a small and quiet one. How much quicker would a SSD drive be than a regular hard drive roughly for loading up windows and opening firefox, outlook etc?

a SSD drive may boot up to windows 7 desktop in 20seconds or so.
The coolermaster elite 330 should be okay size but cases all comes down to preference really:

He may not use it for gaming but a 5750 be great choice if he ever wanted to play games on it and its better to have a dedicated gpu than a intergrated gpu for video editing and photo editing.
Re: New PC build for £500
Not really any gaming really. Mainly going to be used for business as I am predominantly working at home. I would like HDMI out to connect to my monitor but don't need amazing graphics capabilities. So if I could save a few £ with GPU that would be great!

the 5750 be more than enough for your usage,it has HDMI output.
Also its great for watching hd video and just say you ever did want play a game you can,i personally wouldn't bother with any lower end 5000 series card.
Also the build itself is about £501,just the shipping charges make it abit more.
Re: New PC build for £500
This is one build you might want to consider:
CoolerMaster Elite 340 ~ £29
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=38847
OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit ~ £68
http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/...roductId=37540
Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H ~ £76
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/218931
Has the SB850 southbridge which supports six SATA 3.0 devices. However,if you have a Samsung F3 you may need to flash the firmware. The motherboard also has USB3.0 too.
AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 635 2.90GHz ~ £78
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=39497
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5450 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card ~ £35
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=39664
TBH,the HD4250 IGP which the 880G motherboards have maybe enough and it supports HDMI.
Corsair 400W CX PSU ~ £30

The total comes to around £316 excluding postage. You will need to get some case fans and pick an appropriate SSD.
Re: New PC build for £500
Im guessing you are running on something pretty outdated now? i wudnt even bother with the 5750 tbh, either onboard AMD or something really basic like a 5450. SSD does sound liek a good call though as you specifically mentioned loading up times!
You mentioned quiet, i would spend more money on some good quality cooling. With that in mind, the Coolermaster elite is a bad choice! i used one for a while as a temp case and that thing seriously rattles and resonates. Splash out on the case a bit and maybe cut back on the SSD, just get a 64GB one or something.

edit - damn CTF beat me too it... you get the idea though
Re: New PC build for £500
Thanks for all the input guys!
I currently have an AMD 3700 with 1GB DDR ram which rather slow as you can imagine!
I think I will probably stick with the 400W Corsair PSU, 4GB of Corsair or OCZ ram. I don't think I need as high end a graphics card as the 5750, I reckon it will be wasted on my build. I agree that a SSD would be a good idea as it looks like the speed improve is worth the cost in my case.
I want to go with a motherboard that supports USB 3 as well, worth it for future proofing?
What is the difference in speed between the processors?
Re: New PC build for £500
between mine and cats?
Not a perfect comparison but to give you an idea have a look on toms hardware.
Not a massive difference really, the Phenom might be another thing which is a bit wasted.
I was just quickly putting something together as an example and he did a bit more exploring into the options. I would go for his RAM for sure, but i stand by my opinion on the case, use the cash you saved from the CPU RAM and GFX to get a decent case, cooler and some high quality fans if you wanna keep that thing quiet. An Antec P183 or a Fractal Design R2 are good options. I would suggest something in the mATX side of things as you probably dont need such a big case however you mentioned you have a few hard drives, how many exactly?
Re: New PC build for £500
Don't forget - you can share a saved cart link instead of screen grabs.. a bit easier perhaps then having to upload the images etc :)
