Budget build for a friend £500 for everything

Right my friend needs the box, a monitor and an OS for as close to £500 as possible. He plays WoW and CS:S and would like to play them on about medium settings.

Without going for a second had graphics card this is as close as I've got to meeting his request, a whole £60 over budget but he will be able to play the games on good settings.

A 20" monitor is big enough for him but the price doesn't seem to be that different.

Re: Budget build for a friend £500 for everything

Just some ideas to play with here.

You could look at moving down to a Athlon II X2 240 at £45
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-A...MHz-65W-Retail

Mayby go with a 500Gb Samsung Spinpoint F3 instead of the 1Tb for £33. Can always fit another later.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/500Gb...-Cache-8ms-OEM

Saves you roughly £20 which could reduce the price of the build or put towards getting 4Gb of memory at £72.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-%...-9-9-9-24-150V

I would get the Corsair 450W HX Modular PSU for £54 as its the same price as the one you choose. You could get away with the corsair 400W PSU mayby for £30.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/400W-...ncy-UK-Version

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/450W-...-year-Warranty

Mayby look at a HD4670 card in place of the HD 5670 to save a bit more if needed? Scan have a 512Mb for £54 or the 1Gb for £63 but thats out of stock at the moment.

EDIT: Plus knock £10 off for the carriage as you get it free by having more than 20 posts on Hexus.

Re: Budget build for a friend £500 for everything

See below for what I would do, ignore the carriage, 20 posts here means you get free delivery total around £510 - go back down to the 5670 if you really cant find another £10:

Also using single slot RAM means he can double up later if he feels he needs too, oh and I didnt notice 64bit Win 7, either way wont change the price much

Re: Budget build for a friend £500 for everything

If you don't mind second hand, I have a 4770 that needs to go. It seems to be more powerful than the 5670 while not using much energy. Although, I don't think you would be able to buy on Hexus, having under 100 posts.

They seem to sell for about £45 used, if you want to keep an eye out for one.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/165438

    4GB 1333MHZ DDR3 ~£68

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158711

Alternatively you could get an HD4850 512Mb for around £73 delivered from Aria:

Thanks guys, I'l have a chat with him and we'll see what's up on Today Only on Thurs, Friday and Sat (he wants to order by the weekend).

You've all been a huge help as always, I'l try to squeeze a bit more out of to get the 5750 or 4850 cos I know he'll appreciate the boost.
