    Old PCs

Any idea what to do with them? There's some local PC recyling places, but I'm unsure if they'll take them or not due to their age (they vary but are all 6 years + I think).

My parents are trying to get rid of them as they're clogging up the house (few CRT's too) and was wondering if there's anywhere that you good people know of would take them to either recycle them/reuse them?

Is it likely that anyone on here would want them for whatever reasoning? I can get the specs on them if need be (well, try to).

Seriously though, here in Bath the recycling people have a separate bin for all unwanted electronics and they, or so I'm told, will either restore or recycle any componants that they can. Maybe Rugby has a similar system. You local council website should have details. The other option if they are still working of course is to drop them in a local charity store.
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

    Re: Old PCs

I offered them on here, somebody paid a courier to come and pick them up off me.

Freecycle would be a similar deal.

Yeah, the Hunter's Lane site definitely has an area where you can leave old electrical components - dumped a load there a while ago.

Just noticed you're in Rugby too Adam.

    Re: Old PCs

You can take them back to the original retailer (dell even collect them from you I think), give them away, or as mentioned, nearly all recycle/household waste centres have an electronics dump as well.

I'm not sure if they all work/to what extent, I need to sit down and look at them all really, I can't even remember why we have them/where they came from.

Have thought about freecycle, though I think they may be too old to be of much use. I may have a look at them then offer them on here if I can get the specs etc.

Ahh awesome I don't think my parents really want to dump them though as they're all in an acceptable condition (just rather out of date) but may do if they get too fed up (having said that, they've been 'in the way' for about 5 years now).

They're mostly custom builds (not by me, friends of family etc) but freecycle might be an option. I'll post on here prior to freecycle though.

They might be better than what some of the general public are using. I think my sister is still using a sempron 1Ghz which she has had for the best part of the last decade.

If they are worth any money might be worth selling them off as working and someone less fortunate than us can get some use out of them before they goto silicone heaven.

I thought that, but I was pleasantly surprised. Got shut of a Pentium 3 desktop and an old single core, 256mb laptop pretty easily.
