SB850 chipset and F3 harddrives
I've read that the SB850 chipset mobos are incompatible with the Samsung F3 HDDs unless you flash the HDD with new firmware. To flash it, can I use the parts as they are (though I read that it would make an annoying sound) and then flash it or should I use a different computer to do so? i.e. is there any risk in using the HDD with the mobo before flashing it?
Re: SB850 chipset and F3 harddrives
I have the Asus M4A89GTD PRO and a 500GB F3. It worked without any flashing. I have heard that it'll work okay if you disable the 6gbps option in the BIOS but I didn't have to do this.
Some BIOS updates have an update such as "Improved compatability with Samsung Hard drives". I'm unsure what this has done to the situation though.
I think the problem is that it doesn't recognise the drives in the BIOS, so you'll have to use a different computer to flash them.

Ah ok, so it would be fine for me to connect them and see what happens, right?

Connect and test everythings okay. Make sure bios is up-to date though.
