    New toy graphics tablet

picked up a cheap graphics tablet from medion, A4 and cost £25. Bit of a learning curve as new user, but a bit of a grin getting back to a pen.

I've been looking out for that at the local Aldi store. They had them before but, I missed getting one.

Yep it is, I've got an Aiptek that looks identical, model is 600U
    http://www.aiptek.eu/index.php?optio...184&Itemid=542

It's ok, not a wacon, esp in terms of pressure response range
ie you have to push much harder to cover the full pressure range, this means I've got quite a few scratch marks over mine now from doing texture work in photoshop.
Also beware rechargeable batteries in the pen, the lower voltage used in rechargeable batteries makes the pen less responsive. (battery free pen is another major plus point to wacon)

However they are 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a basic wacon of the same size/type and they do work well for the cost.

    Re: New toy graphics tablet

I bought a 2nd hand WACOM rather than another product as all the reviews and comments basically say "...it's OK, but it's not a WACOM".

The caveat to this statement is that I bought mine 5 years ago and brand quality can change a lot in that time as a company starts to rely on it's reputation rather than enhance it with continuing good quality control.

Saying that, I use mine infrequently now, so if I ever have to replace it I would seriously consider a different cheaper brand as long as it fit my requirements.
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

I've wanted a graphics tablet for ages now. Would like to try it for Lightroom, Photoshop and the rest of the Creative Suite

I believe that a CDC is considered an obligitory first draw for a new tablet. Failure to do so results in massive system crash caused by silicon surprise stress.
