Possible build or the In-Laws
Currently pondering buying a Dell, 3XS, or building a rig for the inlaws. If I went the DIY route some random button clicking got me this setup

Usage would be simple office stuff, internet, etc. Good idea, bad idea, any obviouse problems, or alternatives?
Cheers
Re: Possible build or the In-Laws
That seems way too good for basic home use, do you really need 3 cores, 4GB RAM and a 22inch screen? You may want a 785G board though if they might be watching 1080p videos.
Re: Possible build or the In-Laws
Think I could be making the mistake of having a budget , and then trying to spend it.
Will look at 2Gb of ram and cheaper CPU. Screen wise that was pretty much a random choice, but they are comming from a 19" CRT so a 20"+ TFT would be a good idea. One thing that screen does have is a good mount, which would be handy.
Re: Possible build or the In-Laws
Things to note a 19" CRT is roughtly the same size as a non-wide screen 17" LCD.
A 22" 16:10 1680x1050 is the same physical height as a 17" 4:3 1280x1024, but wider so it will look bigger compaired to a 19" CRT (a 17" widescreen LCD can look smaller)
A 19" 16:10 1440x900 is also worth considering, although it'll be slightly shorter it has the largest dot pitch of any LCD monitor and older people who's eye sight is starting to go can often prefer that over a smaller dot pitch monitor.

2gb + dual core is fine and at this price point some prebuilt systems are worth looking at.
Lenovo ThinkCentre A58 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190081
Acer Veriton X275 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/222649
(Note these are also a small form factor)
If you don't mind larger
Zoostorm Home Desktop http://www.ebuyer.com/product/227138
Then you just need to add a monitor.
You can also look at Dell, as basic general pc's they are decent.
Re: Possible build or the In-Laws
Cheers all, have ordered one of the ebuyer rigs, and a 19" 16:10 1440x900 monitor, they are both getting on a bit.
