EVGA GTX460 1Gb External Exhaust Noise?

Does anyone have experience with this card?
I ask as I am looking to place an order with Scan for a 3xs system but I have read some reviews that said there was an annoying noise from this card. Its especially important as I will want to SLI after a few months but don't want noise to ruin it.

Re: EVGA GTX460 1Gb External Exhaust Noise?

I bought the SC EE version to go into my other rig, I did update the bios using the FPB to unlock the fan.

Can't really say that its noisy at all even under heavy load, certainly not as noisy as my GTX260.

May breakout my old Nokia 5140 (if I can find it) as it has a basic decibel meter...

Re: EVGA GTX460 1Gb External Exhaust Noise?

Yeah I was thinking that with the case closed it wouldn't be that bad, somepeople can be more sensitive to the noise I suppose.
One more question - Whats the noise like at idle or watching movies? Could you leave it on in the same room and sleep? When gaming I will probably have cans on anyway...

Not noticeable at idle or watching movies to me at least, the latest bios update does bring the fan speed down to 30% from 40% at idle, again hardly notice it.

My overclocked 460 has stock cooler and never seen it go above 40% fan, moderately ventilated case. Quiet at all times.

That sounds like a resonance issue, something is picking up sympathetic vibrations from ether, vibrations off the blower or vibration caused by the air flow.
The fact that it's more noticeable at 70% than 80% or 60% shows it as resonance.

    Still it's much better than a gtx480

Re: EVGA GTX460 1Gb External Exhaust Noise?

My XFX HD4830 makes that exact same noise, but it never reaches the fan speeds that cause it. I don't expect a GTX460 would either.
