New mobo sound question ( Asus )

Just switched from a gigabyte ma770t to an asus M4A87TD EVO.

Now with the gigabyte i ran my speakers in the back, but used the blue line in for my headphones..it seems i cant do this on the asus or am i missing something, on the gigabyte when you plugged something into a port it asked what it was and just worked.

Perhaps you have not installed the driver / software with your board? The default windows driver don't normally work with jack-detection.

This is REALLY starting to do my head in, i only bought the board from scan today. It plays sound fine..but it wont let me configure any jack options in HD Vdeck, nor does it have any jack detection ( which it should )

Nope, installed windows 7 twice, and xp once (to verify) its goosed, what a bag of crap, not bought asus for personal use for a long time, always stuck with gigabyte, it will be going back to scan for a refund, and unless i can find a realtek powered asus il be staying clear.
