    Athlon XP-M 2500+ Question..

I've seen how laptops and the new A64's lower the multiplier when idle thus lowering the temp (Cool n Qiuet). Anyone tried the same thing on a NF7-S and XP-M 2500+?

I used to have an Athlon XP-M 1400+ (1200mhz) laptop which clocked itself at 600mhz when it wasn't doing much.

    Anyone any ideas?

I havent used a mobile cpu. They support powernow (think thats what its called) and there are apps to change it on the fly, but that is heavly dependant on the mobo and bios version, and probably wont work nealy as well, if at all, on desktop boards, as there not designed for it (I think via ones might ssuooprt it properly, as they are used in laptops.)

Probably won't work... But as |SilentDeath| said, it is dependent on the mobo. The chances for that you will get it working as it does on a laptop are minimal I'm afraid.

As for A64s, cool n quiet works perfectly on desktops aswell. Got one here that uses it, a great function really...
Light travels faster than sound. Is this why some people appear bright until you hear them speak?

Clockgen works with multiple bioses, now if they just have something like "MultiplierGen"

There's a bunch of mobo's that you can overclock in windows with utilities... like MSI (Fuzzylogic), Abit, etc. but Im not sure if any allow multiplier manipulation

I bet it wouldn't be too hard to do ie via a BIOS flash. Laptops afaik use modified (obviously) desktop boards with custom BIOS's.

It'd be very nice feature on my NF7-S board and would be great for SN45G's and other Athlon based SFF's and the like.

8rdavcore will adjust fsb according to load.
nvsu can adjust multiplier in Windows but not automatically.
