    Quiet UV 80mm fans?

Anyone know who makes quiet UV fans and where to get them?

I've got an Antec green UV fan (off eBuyer for £3.52) which is nice'n'bright but damn noisy. Even using a fan controller it's noisy at anything above minimum (5V).

You could just buy something seriously quiet, like a Papst or something, and then buy some UV reactive paint, and paint the whole of your new quiet fan, and voila, you now have a silent, UV reactive fan!
Plus, you can use the left over UV paint to paint anything else, like cables, g/c etc..

LOL! That's one way to do it i guess... wouldn't look as nice as a translucent coloured fan tho without the CCFLs on.

Have found a company called Sharkoon who do some pretty snazzy fans which are allegedly pretty quiet, so might have to give them a go. Anyone tried them already?

shredisn@tdead - I got the Blue UV from ebuyer, runnning it at 5V I think, I modded the 4pin connector..can't say its noisey, the rest of my fans are running 1% speedfan. nice ultra quiet shuttle.

maybe just bad luck with the one you got. most fans at 5v are near silent I think.

rheobusses work by PWM which to lower the power just switches the fan on and off very quickly. You cant notice it becuase its too fast, but it doesnt help the fan. Instead it makes more niose as teh fan is constantly changing speed.
try using 7v mod or using a dedicated *linear* regulator (loook for lm7808/lm7809 at maplins) to get a fixed speed you want. If that works well then look at the lm317 as its variable (but tiny bit harder to do, for someone thats never used regulators before)

Guess I'll do the 7V mod first 'cos I can only find lm317 on maplin.co.uk (no sign of lm7808/9) and it's all Greek tbh.
