    mmm come to think of it i bought some of them cheapy ram covers that surround the ram a while back to supposedly keep them cool i wonder if these could be having an effect

    p.s i have ran the memory at 266 in line with fsb of processer and also at 333 both with same results

    All computers hang shortly when you put a CD in the drive and Ad-aware is HDD intensive so that could be causing IE to run slowly.

    My SCSI CD drive is a pain for this as the SCSI adapter hogs the whole PCI bus for the duration of CD detection.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Yeah the first thing Windows does when you put a CD in ist o try and mount the file system. Until this is done the PC oftens seems to lock up. If the CD is not readable it can be quite a problem. Also i find multisession writable disks often take quite a long time to mount.

    IT seems to depend a bit on the drive. Eg. the workstation dells in my college lab aften hang for quite a while when trying to read a disk but on my home computer it is barelly noticable.

    It might be my imagination, but it didn't hang so much for me when I put all my hard drives on one IDE cable, and my optical drives on the Secondary.

    You should never run CD-ROM drives and Hard Disks on the same IDE cable.
